Bedgrove Junior School

An Academy of the Great Learners Trust

Welcome to our school website. We understand that choosing the right school for your child is one of the most important decisions that you will make. We hope that the information you find here will support you with that decision.

I am sure that our website will give you a full flavour of all the great things that happen at our school, whilst also providing up to date information for parents, pupils and the wider community. However, please do contact us if you feel that you need any further information.

I am very proud to be the Headteacher of Bedgrove Junior School. I joined Bedgrove in January 2016 and I have seen the school undergo considerable changes during the past six years; which has resulted in a significant increase in pupil numbers, pupil outcomes and a vastly improved curriculum offer. We have continued to work effectively as a school community even through these last challenging two years. In September 2022 I will be leaving Bedgrove Junior School, to take up my new position as Director of Education for the Great Learners Trust. Mr Harrison Hiller, will be the Headteacher from September 2022.

Bedgrove Junior School is a large four-form entry Junior School, which provides education to children aged 7-11. The majority of our children feed through from Bedgrove Infant School, which shares the same school site.

Bedgrove Junior School is a well-resourced primary school with a very committed, stable team of staff, supportive Local Governing Board and an active PTA.  We have specialist teachers for creative arts and PE and offer the children a broad and balanced curriculum which is enhanced with our many trips, visitors and out of school experiences.  All classrooms are equipped with up to date ICT equipment and other learning resources. We have a dedicated dance studio, children's kitchen, well-stocked library and class sets of laptops and IPADs for the children to use.  We have developed our outside space with the installation of climbing equipment in all three playgrounds and our MUGA (multi use games area) to improve our PE and playtime provision.

On 1st April 2019 Bedgrove Junior School converted to an academy and joined the Great Learners Trust. The Trust, which was established in 2014,  is a local multi-academy trust specialising in primary education based in Buckinghamshire.  The aim of the trust is to provide local, responsive, practical and strategic support for all partner schools (Great Missenden, Princes Risborough, Wooburn Green, Bearbrook Combined, Elmhurst, Great Kimble, West Wycombe and Manor Farm).

Bedgrove Junior School joined the Trust to ensure that we continue to be an outward facing school; relishing opportunities to work collaboratively with other schools, whilst supporting with the GLT offer of self sustaining school-improvement.

Although, now part of the Great Learners Trust, we continue to relish further opportunities for collaborative learning and professional development with other local schools.  In particular, we have strong links with Bedgrove Infant School and continue to share a number of projects and staff development across the two schools. We also engage with Ashmead Combined School as part of their ITT programme and offer placements for students within our school.

We liaise closely with other local Aylesbury schools through the 'Side by Side' project led by Buckinghamshire Council and have recently completed successful SEND training for all staff through this project.  We are also part of a local Aylesbury Hub for the 'Challenge Partners' network where we work closely with Aylesbury Grammar School and a number of other local schools on leadership development.

Bedgrove Junior School was last formally inspected by OFSTED in June 2015. During this inspection the school was graded as a good school where; "Teachers successfully strive hard to challenge, engage and interest pupils in lessons.  Pupils’ social, moral, spiritual and cultural development is a strength. The school is an extremely caring place where pupils are kept safe and every pupils welfare matters greatly". (OFSTED June 2015).

Our own self evaluation framework identifies many strengths in the school and as a result we grade the school as 'Outstanding' within all areas of the OFSTED framework. This judgement was externally verified in November 2019 with an external trust audit and again through a Challenge Partner's review in January 2022 where the school was identified as 'Leading' in all areas and an area of excellence accredited for our 'Healthy Minds' Curriculum.

As a school we are committed to ensuring that every child learns in a safe, challenging and stimulating environment where they are encouraged to achieve their very best, both within and outside of the classroom.  We are continually striving to improve outcomes, across the curriculum, for all of our pupils and we pride ourselves on the equity of opportunity for all pupils.  Our core purpose is to ensure that pupils are ready for the next stage of their education.

We stand by our slogan - 'Proud to be Purple' as we feel very proud to belong to this school community.

We have three core values that drive us towards achieving our vision of providing the best education we can.

Our values are 'Inspire, Challenge, Succeed''.

We have exceptionally high expectations of all of our pupils and we follow a 'Behaviour for Learning' policy that links closely to British Values.  Through this we prepare our pupils to be good citizens of our school and the wider community whilst encouraging them to become lifelong learners. We expect our pupils to 'Be ready, respectful and safe'.

We know that our close partnership with parents is crucial to the successful education of all our children and we encourage parents to communicate with the school at every opportunity. Parents are, once again, regularly invited in to school for our open events, termly parent presentations or to join our parent forum as a class representative.  We have also supplemented this with online provision as far as possible during these past two years.  We communicate with parents via our parent app, our school website and our fantastic twitter accounts.

In a recent onsite parent survey 100% of parents stated they would recommend our school to another parent.

Our parents say:-

"My children love school, that speaks for itself"

"My child loves it and skips in to school each day"

When asked how to improve our school, one parent commented:

"Nothing comes to mind. You would find it hard to improve on what is already a great school!"

We hope that you enjoy your visit to our website and that you find the information you are looking for. We operate an open door policy and welcome current parents, potential parents or any other visitors to come and see the school in action at any time. Please contact the school office if you do have any questions about the school.

We look forward to meeting you very soon.
