Meetings
The Local Governing Board of Bedgrove Junior School operates as a committee of the Board of Trustees of the Great Learners Trust, of which the school is a member academy school. The remit of the Local Governing Board is set out in the Scheme of Delegated Authority agreed between the school and the Board of Trustees of the Great Learners Trust. This sets out how the Local Governing Board works with the Board of Trustees of the Great Learners Trust to:
set the school’s vision, ethos and strategic direction;
hold the headteacher to account for the educational performance of the school and its pupils; and
oversee the financial performance of the school and make sure its money is well spent.
Our Local Governing Board works together as a whole to meet its responsibilities in respect of each of its core functions and no longer operates via committees.
We hold 3 meetings per term, roughly one per month, each with a specific focus (e.g. finance, teaching & learning etc). To inform our curriculum monitoring, each meeting starts with a presentation from a subject leader or subject team at the school. This keeps local governors updated on provision across the school in each subject area, the strengths and areas for development in each subject, the impact which actions to address areas for development are having on childrens' progress and attainment and the evidence which supports subject leaders' evaluation. Governors follow this up through monitoring visits to school to see with our own eyes what is happening in the classroom, talk to pupils and staff and look at childrens' books. Reports from the headteacher and data further support our understanding of the strengths and areas for development across the school and the impact of actions which leaders are taking. All members of the senior leadership team attend local governing board meetings to answer questions and present in relation to their areas of responsibility. And the school business manager attends meetings to present to governors on financial matters and answer our questions.
Together with the Trustees of the Great Learners Trust we aim to provide confident and strong strategic leadership of Bedgrove Junior School which leads to robust, accountability oversight and assurance for all stakeholders for the educational and financial performance of the school.
